Retford based STEM Ambassador and multiple business owner Suzanne Smith CEng MCIBSE, has today been selected as a finalist in the 2017 European Women in Construction and Engineering Awards, a week after winning Business Woman of The Year at the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce Enterprising Women Awards.
The theme of this year's awards is "Breaking Down Barriers and Building New heights". Women represent only 11% of the construction workforce in the UK and most of these jobs are office based and only 2% work in manual jobs. When it comes to women in engineering only 9 per cent of UK engineering professionals are women.
About her nomination, Suzanne said 'I am delighted to have been selected as a finalist and I am looking forward to the judging day next month. I love working in construction and hope these awards will inspire other women to join me'.
Suzanne Smith is the co-owner of Sherwood Knowledge Limited and Soteria Asbestos Limited . She is a Polar Ambassador, a STEM Ambassador and a keen fundraiser for The British Lung Foundation.
